Geo-challenge: ______ ______ from ______ ______

This is a two-part geo-challenge.  Part 1:  What’s the jagged red linear landform in the distance?  It continues for miles, and is graphically-named.  (Click on images for better views.)
Evening light made it more red.
Part 2:  Where was I standing when I took the photos?
Parking area for vantage point.
Mystery landform from a different location ... and not so red.

***UPDATE***  It's Comb Ridge in southeast Utah, viewed from Salvation Knoll on Cedar Mesa.  Thanks to Ron Schott for figuring it out ... I was worried!  More info in upcoming post.

  4. We're facing W to WNW toward the Waterpocket Fold from one of the lowest flanks of the southern portion of the Henry Mountains. Looks like Boulder Mountain and Thousand Lakes Mountain in the distance. Nice photo! Tricky!

    1. Jack, you are so close! It's the next monocline south, Comb Ridge. Sorry to be so tricky. I was starting to think too tricky but then Ron Schott got it.

  6. So is that Mule Canyon on the left side of the first pic and lower-left corner of the second?

    1. Lynn, you may be right. I don't know the area well, but that is Cedar Mesa and looking in the right direction.

  7. Ah, good to know someone solved it. I don't know the area well enough to ID the landforms, I was going to say part of the Painted Desert, but that would be too far south ofyou, right? In any case, what stunning views!
