And thanks for the link.<br /><br />A bit more than a year ago, I found the actual source (Dutton, 1886) of the caterpillars quote: "...looking upon the map like an army of caterpillars crawling northward." The entire tracking down of that can be found in <a href="http://highway8a.blogspot.com/2010/12/like-caterpillars-crawling-or-marching.html" rel="nofollow">this blog post</a>.
